Answers to the questions most commonly asked about Vincenta, compatible calculators, licensing, installation and purchasing.
Vincenta is an electronic celestial navigation aid designed for the TI-Nspire™ CX graphing calculator. It performs astronomical calculations, sight reduction, running fixes, body identification and many other celestial navigation tasks, allowing the navigator to concentrate on taking observations and interpreting the results.
Vincenta is designed for offshore sailors, cruising yachtsmen, professional mariners, instructors, students and anyone wishing to perform celestial navigation using a dedicated electronic platform.
No. Vincenta performs the astronomical calculations required for celestial navigation, but you still require a sextant to obtain celestial observations.
No. Vincenta is intended as a computational aid. The navigator remains responsible for obtaining accurate observations, interpreting the results and making all navigational decisions.
No. Vincenta is intended solely as a supplementary electronic celestial navigation aid and must not be relied upon as the sole or primary means of navigation.
The TI-Nspire™ CX provides a dedicated, energy-efficient computing platform with long battery life, fast start-up and no background applications, notifications or operating system updates that might interfere with operation.
Vincenta supports both the original TI-Nspire™ CX and the TI-Nspire™ CX II graphing calculators.
No. Vincenta is designed for the standard TI-Nspire™ CX platform and does not require the CAS version.
Yes. Many Vincenta users purchase a second-hand TI-Nspire™ CX specifically to run Vincenta, creating a dedicated celestial navigation computer.
Yes! You do not need to source or configure a calculator yourself. We have a dedicated Pre-Loaded Handhelds page offering complete, ready-to-navigate systems:
No. Like any electronic navigation equipment, the calculator should be protected from water and handled appropriately in the marine environment.
Vincenta includes a comprehensive collection of celestial navigation tools, including sight reduction, running fixes, navigation triangles, interactive sky plots, body identification, sight analysis, local apparent noon calculations, sight folders, log folders, dead reckoning, estimated positions and many other astronomical functions.
Vincenta performs all calculations in 64-bit double precision using WGS-84 ellipsoidal geometry. Its multi-sight running fix engine is benchmarked against the official U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO) 1999 standard problem, matching published USNO fix results within 0.01 to 0.02 arcminutes (∼15 meters). Yes. Vincenta performs astronomical calculations internally and does not require an external Nautical Almanac during normal operation.
No. Vincenta performs the necessary astronomical and sight reduction calculations electronically.
No. Once installed and activated, Vincenta operates entirely offline.
No. Vincenta operates independently of satellite navigation systems and performs its calculations without requiring GNSS.
Each Vincenta licence is permanently associated with one compatible TI-Nspire™ CX calculator using that calculator's unique Product ID.
Normally no. Licences are intended for permanent use on the calculator for which they were purchased.
Where a calculator suffers genuine hardware failure, accidental damage, loss or theft, Vincenta may provide a replacement licence after reviewing reasonable supporting evidence. Please see the Licensing Policy for full details.
No. Vincenta licences are perpetual and do not require any recurring subscription or annual fee.
Yes. Maintenance updates are provided free of charge within your purchased major version. Future major versions may be offered as optional paid upgrades.
No. Following purchase you will receive the Vincenta software, your personalised Activation Key and step-by-step installation instructions. Installation normally takes only a few minutes.
No. Your Activation Key is generated specifically for your calculator before delivery and is entered directly into Vincenta during installation.
Yes. Simply reinstall the software and activate it using your original Activation Key. For this reason, you should keep your licence email in a safe place.
Once your payment has been processed, Vincenta generates a personalised Activation Key for your calculator. You will then receive an email containing your Licence Number, Activation Key and download instructions.
Licence details are normally sent shortly after payment has been successfully processed.
If you believe you entered an incorrect Product ID, please contact Vincenta before attempting activation. Where possible, a replacement Activation Key may be generated for the correct calculator at Vincenta's discretion.
Vincenta is an ultra-lean, highly optimized application under 1 MB in size. Rather than bundling heavy graphics or unnecessary background code, Vincenta was engineered specifically for the TI-Nspire™ CX to ensure fast power-on, minimal calculation lag, maximum RAM availability, and minimal battery consumption at sea.
No. The TI-Nspire™ CX is an exceptionally energy-efficient platform and can normally operate for many hours on a single battery charge.
Yes. Because Vincenta runs on the calculator's internal rechargeable battery, it remains available even during extended onboard power outages.
